Sting Beat Spitfires 3-2 for 8th Straight Win

Brady Hinz scored two goals as the Sarnia Sting beat the Spitfires 3-2 in Windsor Sunday.

This is the eighth victory in a row for the Sting, who now have sole possession of first place in the OHL West Division with 18 points. Windsor, the defending Memorial Cup champions. is in third place with 13 points.

Hinz's goals accounted for the first two scored in the game. The first was scored at just over the halfway point of the first period, the second on the power play in the middle of the second frame. These are Hinz's eighth and ninth goals of the season.

The Spitfires got on the board at 61 seconds into the third period when Luke Kutkevicius scored his third goal of the year. Sarnia answered back five minutes later when Anthony Salinitri found the net.

Windsor had a late power play and goalie Michael DiPietro was pulled for the extra attacker. Jake Smith took advantage at 18:35 and pulled the Spitfires to within one. DiPietro, who had 40 saves in the game, was pulled again but Windsor was unable to tie the game.

Aidan Hughes got the win in goal for Sarnia, with 34 saves.

Both teams are back in action Thursday night. Sarnia heads to North Bay while Windsor hosts Peterborough.
