Sting Fall to Kitchener 3-1 in Home Opener

The Sarnia Sting missed some opportunities late in their home opener Saturday night.

The Kitchener Rangers scored two unanswered goals in the latter two periods to spoil Opening Night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in a 3-1 win over the Sting. Sarnia is at 1-1 in regular-season play.

Kitchener scored first at 15:57 in the first period when Riley Damiani scored his second goal on the young season. Just less than two minutes later, Jordan Ernst tied it up for the Sting on a goal assisted by Drake Rymsha and Braden Henderson.

The Rangers broke the tie in the second period when Cole Carter scored his first goal of the year.

Despite outshooting Kitchener 15-7 in the third period, Sarnia was unable to tie the game. Justin Fazio was pulled from goal late in the third period and the Rangers scored the insurance goal off the stick of Doug Blaisdell.

Fazio picked up 22 saves in net for the Sting, who next see action on Saturday, September 30 when the Kingston Frontenacs come to town.
