Sting Shutout Spirit 6-0

Anthony Salinitri scored a hat trick on a night of milestones and flying teddy bears, as the Sarnia Sting shut out the Saginaw Spirit 6-0 Saturday night at the Dow Event Center.

Justin Fazio turned away all 32 of Saginaw's shots in his 100th career game, snapping the Sting's three game slide.  Kevin Spinozzi picked up an assist in his 250th career game.

Going into Saturday night's contest, the Sting had 36 points, good for third place in the OHL's West Division.  The Spirit is currently in last place in the division with 31 points heading into the game.

The first two goals of the game would come off of Salinitri's stick.  The first lamplighter was just a minute and 45 seconds into the game, the second was at 6:51 into the first period.  Ryan McGregor would extend the Sarnia lead to 3-0 with his tenth goal of the year, at 13:31 into the first.

It would not take long into the second period for the Sting to extend its lead to 4-0, as Franco Sproviero performed the deed at just 2:39 into the stanza.  Jordan Kyrou, who would also get two assists on the night, continued the Sting's scoring frenzy at 1:21 in the third period, his 12th goal of the season.  Salinitri completed the hat trick just 49 seconds later to make it 6-0 Sarnia.  The Spirit held their charity teddy bear toss Saturday night and with no goal on the board for Saginaw, the bears were thrown with just over six minutes left in the game.

Evan Cormier collected the loss in net for the Spirit, who are now on their holiday break.  The Sting will travel to West Division leading Sault Ste. Marie Sunday afternoon.
