Sting Lose Second in a Row, 6-4 to Battalion

The Sarnia Sting went one-for-three on the weekend, ending with a 6-4 loss to the North Bay Battalion Sunday afternoon at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Brett McKenzie picked up two goals and an assist for the Battalion, who move within two points of the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL Central Division standings.  The Sting remains tied for second place in the Midwest Division with 19 points, one behind the Windsor Spitfires.

The Sting did start off strong in the game, scoring the first two goals.  Troy Lajeunesse got the first goal at 4:30 in the first period.  This was followed almost four minutes later by a goal from Ryan McGregor.  North Bay would respond with two goals of their own in the period.  Brady Lyle got his second goal of the year to make it 2-1 Sarnia, and McKenzie got his first goal of the afternoon at 15:34 to tie it up at two apiece.  The Sting, however, would take a 3-2 lead into the first intermission thanks to a score from Adam Ruzicka.

It was a quiet second period for both sides as each team got one minor penalty and no goals.  In the third, however, the Battalion attacked again with two goals 17 seconds apart.  The first was McKenzie's second of the day, followed by one from Justin Brazeau.  The Sting continued to fight later in the period and with 2:40 left in regulation, pulled within one on a goal from Anthony Salinitri.  But North Bay would score twice more in the waning moments of the game on goals from Steve Harland and Maurizio Colella.

Brent Moran was the winning goalie for North Bay, facing 37 Sarnia shots and stopping 33 of them.  Justin Fazio was the goalie for the Sting.

The Kitchener Rangers come to town on Wednesday night.
