MLB The race for the American League East division has gotten that much tighter. Jackie Bradley Junior, David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez all hit home runs as the Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 11-8. Troy Tulowitzki hit a grand slam for the Toronto in the loss. The Blue Jays open a series against Tampa Bay Monday two games back of the division lead.

The Orioles beat the Tigers 3-1 to pull even with Toronto in the AL East. Detroit's now two games back of the final wild card spot in the American League.

NFL The New England Patriots opened the season with a 23-21 win over Arizona, despite Tom Brady serving his first of a four game suspension. Drew Brees threw for 424 yards and four touchdown, but New Orleans fell to Oakland 35-34 on a late two point conversion. The Detroit Lions beat Indianapolis 39-35 in dramatic fashion. Elsewehere, the Bills lost to Baltimore, Green Bay beat Jacksonville, and Philly clobbered Cleveland.

CFL Toronto beat Hamilton 33-21 to snap a the Argos four game losing streak. With started Ricky Ray out with an injury, the Argos acquired QB Drew Willy from Winnipeg After the game. The Bombers also traded a draft pick to Montreal in exchange for quarterback Kevin Glenn, who played for Winnipeg between 2004 and 2008. Elsewhere on the weekend, Winnipeg beat Saskatchewan 17-10, Calgary over Edmonton 34-28 and BC topped Montreal 38-27.

WCoH Team North America beat Team Europe 7-4 in the second of three exhibition games for both sides leading into the World Cup of Hockey tournament. Aaron Ekblad, Johnny Gaudreau and Dylan Larkin each scored twice.

Tennis Stan Wawrinka is the men's 2016 US Open champion. Wawrinka downed world number one Novak Djokovic down in four sets for his first title at Flushing Meadows and third Grand Slam trophy overall.

OHL Travis Konecny notched a hat trick as the Sting wrapped up their preseason with a 5-4 shootout win in Windsor Saturday. Nikita Korostelev and Jakob Chychrun both had a pair of helpers. The Sting open the regular season September 21 when they host London. (read MORE)

GOJHL The Sarnia Legionnaires fell 4-1 to Listowel Sunday after edging Thorold 4-3 on Saturday. The Legionnaires open their home schedule at Sarnia Arena Thursday against St Thomas.

The Lambton Shores Predators beat Brantford 4-3 in overtime Saturday, then beat up on Buffalo 7-0 Sunday. The Preds host Strathroy Saturday in their home opener.

Lambton College The Women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Mohawk Saturday in Ancaster. The men's game was suspended due to lightning and will be played at a later date. The women are on the road against St Clair Tuesday, the men play Wednesday.
