Sting Come Up Empty Against Knights

Sarnia was unable to beat London Sunday, extending their string of losses to 16 straight against the Knights.

The game began in simlar fashion to Thursday's contest between the two teams, with London holding a 3-0 advantage through 20 minutes in both contests. The Knights got out to a quick lead with Matthew Tkachuk and Chad Heffernan scoring before the game was even two minutes old. Jacob Graves added his first goal of the season to open up London's first period lead.

Christian Dvorak scored his league leading 37th goal 3:56 into the middle stanza to open a 4-0 lead for the home team. Anthony Salinitri got the Sting on the scoreboard with just under five minutes remaining in the second, scoring on a rebound from a Jakob Chychrun point shot.

That is as close as the Sting would get, falling to the Knights 4-1.

Tempers boiled over in the game's final two minutes when Kevin Spinozzi bumped Max Jones after the whistle, prompting players from both teams to square off. Linesmen had to hold Spinozzi and Mitchell Marner back while the crowd formed behind the Sarnia goal.

While the dust was settling from the first altercations, another fight broke out between Travis Konecny and Owen MacDonald. Shortly after those two finished, Alex Black and Chad Heffernan squared off to add to what was already a busy stoppage of play.

After everything was finished, officials took about 20 minutes to sort out all the penalties.

In all, nine players we ejected from the game. Sarnia lost Travis Konecny, Sam Studnicka, Brandon Lindberg and Kevin Spinozzi while Mitchell Marner, Max Jones, Aaron Berisha, Chad Heffernan and Owen MacDonald being kicked out for London. Heffernan received an additional misconduct for leaving the bench. MacDonald was given a match penalty for attempt to injure, he was mixed up with Konecny on the play.

Both teams will likely have to deal with suspensions, and since all the fights happened in the same stoppage, there could be additional games for those involved. Konecny and Spinozzi were credited with the second fight, meaning they will likely miss some games.

Sarnia hosts Flint Friday for the first half of a home and home with the Firebirds.
