Strong Finish Powers Sarnia Over Flint

The Sarnia Sting scored four goals in the third period en route to a 5-2 win over Flint Sunday night.

Ryan McGregor scored the first period's only goal midway through the frame to give Sarnia an early lead..

The Sting held the one goal lead until the final minute of the second period when Flint's Connor Chatham scored to even things of up at one.

Sarnia's Matt Mistele scored his 12th goal of the season, fourth as a Sting, to give Sarnia a 2-1 lead just under six minutes into the third period. The lead was short lived as Flint tied the game at two just minutes later. With Mistele in the box for a delay of game penalty Jeff King scored a short handed goal to give Sarnia their third lead of the hockey game.

The Sting would not give up the lead this time around as Jordan Kyrou and Hayden Hodgson scored goals to secure the 5-2 win, out shooting the Firebirds 43-23.

2,441 fans at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre watched the Sting improve to 17-11-2-0 on the season. Sarnia keeps pace with the Windsor Spitfires, who beat Kitchener 4-3 in overtime Sunday to stay five points ahead of the Sting.

Sarnia travels to Mississauga Friday and Erie Sunday before the schedule breaks for Christmas.
