Spitfires Shutout Sting

The Sarnia Sting lost a tightly played contest Friday night that was dominated by strong goaltending and tight defensive play.

Both teams were held off the score sheet through the first two periods with goalies Justin Fazio and Michael DiPietro holding the fort for their respective teams.

Newly acquired Brendan Lemieux finally opened the scoring 3:42 into the third period scoring his 11th goal of the season, his second as a Spitfire. The Sting then got into a bit of penalty trouble with Josh Jacobs and Anthony Salinitri both being sent off within a five second span to put Sarnia down by two. Windsor took advantage of the five on three powerplay with Lemieux scoring his second of the night.

Lemieux completed the hat trick with and empty net goal in the final seconds to cap off the 3-0 Windsor win.

DiPietro made 29 saves for Windsor to record his first OHL shutout. Fazio turned aside 30 of 32 in the Sarnia net.

The Sting wore special "Ugly Christmas Sweater" jerseys in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

The loss puts Sarnia five points back of the division leading Spitfires. Another division rival will be in town Sunday when Sarnia hosts the Flint Firebirds at 7:05pm.
