Winter Tough On Fruit Crop
It’s deja vu for southwestern Ontario fruit farmers.
Zekveld Garden Markets owner John Zekveld says the bitterly cold winter has wiped out over 90% of the tender fruit crop. This includes items like peaches, plums, apricots and nectarines.
Two years ago almost all the fruit crops were decimated by an early spring heat wave followed by a deep frost.
Zekveld says the loss will be covered by insurance, although the price of the so-called tender fruits will likely rise.
