Return of the MAC

It's a celebration of Sarnia's diversity.

Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School is holding its annual MAC Night on Thursday.

The event, put together by the school's student-led Multicultural Awareness Committee highlighting international cuisine and entertainment, has not been held since 2019.

Teacher and MAC Club Advisor Harminder Deol, said the year's theme is 'Finding Strength in our Differences'.

"The biggest thing we thought was we've got to get our community together again," said Deol. "This is a huge event, it's a community event, we have different cultures, different associations and we all gather here. It's through food and entertainment we kind of connect with our community."

Deol said there are 12 food booths from around the world including Greece, India, China, Thailand and Mexico.

She said along with the tasty food, there's a wide range of diverse entertainment lined up.

"We have Irish dancers who will be doing a traditional dance, we have bagpipes and a teacher is going to explain how this works, so it's going to be an interactive session," she said. "We have Zumba dancers, Indian dancers and we'll be paying tribute to Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian singer."

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the Michigan Avenue high school.

Admission is free, however attendees should bring change for food.
