Forest XTreme Ringette holding tryouts after successful season

Fresh off their most successful season as an organization, Forest XTreme Ringette is holding registration and tryouts for this fall.

There are tryouts planned for the U14A, U16A and U19A provincial teams, and the rest are open for registration, starting at four years old.

The first tryouts will be on Saturday, May 13 at the Komoka Arena, and a full list of scheduled dates can be found below.

Forest Ringette Association President Shae Stanbra said they're looking to build on a strong 2022-2023 campaign.

The U16 and U19 squads both represented Team Ontario at the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships in Moncton, NB, after each winning gold at provincials. The U16s captured a bronze medal, while the U19s placed fifth.

"We have grown exponentially," said Stanbra. "Normally, we have some difficulties trying to find players at specific age groups but Forest Ringette Association has been very fortunate to have a large volume of individuals interested in the sport. Our association has been strong and we've been able to field 13 teams across the board each year."

Stanbra is confident they can continue their strong play during the 2023-2024 season.

"We just celebrated our final ringette banquet," she said. "I can say that across the board, our regional and provincial teams (under the age of six and up to the age of 18), celebrated 15 gold medals, 11 silver medals and five bronze medals."

Stanbra said there are many advantages to signing your daughter up for ringette.

"Ringette offers players the opportunity to be involved in team sports, learn sportsmanship, the skill of the game itself. It's very different than what most people see in our area which is hockey," she said. "It's a high-intensity ice sport, one of the quickest sports on the ice."

Stanbra said those interested must pre-register for tryouts and have registered their intent to tryout with WRRA (Western Region Ringette Association). It costs $40 to attend, and players are guaranteed two tryouts.

She said fees for new registrants to the sport are $200, and added that regular registration continues through until June 30.
