Time to count your k's for Noelle's Gift campaign

Noelle's Gift to Children is encouraging everyone to "Count Your K's In May."

Coordinator Cathy Robertson said this is the third year for the month-long event.

"We used to do a day event in May called Noelle's Gift of Fitness and after COVID we navigated over to using the whole month to get people to count their k's and raise funds for Noelle's Gift to Children," said Robertson.

She said a lot of original participants have stuck with them.

"We've had a pretty good following with the people that used to participate in the Noelle's Gift of Fitness Day and we're encouraging students to get involved this year with a registration fee of only $10," Robertson said.

You can register any time in May at NoellesGift.ca

"Being our spring anchor event, we've done very well. We always strive for a goal of $60,000 to raise during the month and both years we've come pretty darn close. So, we're hoping for another successful event," Robertson added.

She's encouraging participants to tie a blue ribbon to Noelle's bench along the waterfront walkway by the Blue Water Bridge and set personal goals.

"If you don't have a smart watch, or phone, you can go online and use something like Map My Walk and put in your location and it will work out what the kilometers are for that," said Robertson. "Then you can just individually keep track of that and ask that your sponsors maybe sponsor you five cents a kilometre or something along that line."

Robertson said each student participant gets a chance to win a family trip to Canada's Wonderland, and each adult participant receives a ballot for a chance to win a two night getaway in Tobermory.

"The funds that we raise go to support student nutrition programs in both the Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent area. We also have a new closet initiative, that is stocking closets with the basic needs that students may not have brought from home or have run into in an emergency," she said.

Noelle’s Gift was established in January 2013 in memory of school teacher Noelle Paquette.
