Time to dispose of household hazardous waste

The first Hazardous Waste Day of the year is on Saturday, March 25.

Residents can properly dispose of a number of different household items at Clean Harbors including batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaning solutions and paints.

You cannot dispose of PCB’s, commercial, industrial and radioactive wastes, electronics and explosives including flares and ammunition.

"The events give Lambton County residents an opportunity to properly dispose of potentially dangerous waste from their homes and protect our environment at the same time," read a County of Lambton news release. "If hazardous products are thrown in with the regular garbage, it can injure sanitation workers and cause long-term environmental problems."

Saturday’s free event at the Telfer Road facility runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Residents are reminded to have items clearly labelled.

Five other hazardous waste days will be held this year in April, May, June, September and October.
