Sunny start to spring in southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada says we can expect very seasonal temperatures for the start of spring 2023.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson said some models indicated we may even be a little cooler than normal for the first half of April before bouncing back to more seasonal temperatures.

"There's still the possibility of a lot of variation going forward and we know in particular this time of year the sun is getting stronger but we are still getting some of those arctic air-masses coming down," said Coulson. "So, at least in the short-term, late March into early April, still quite a bit of potential for those temperatures to bounce around."

Coulson said for the start of spring, it does look a little wetter than normal.

"For the most part it looks like it's going to be in the form of rain," he said. "But in the near term, at least for this last week and a bit of the month of March we could still see some flurries in some areas, temperatures especially in the overnight hours, dipping down below the freezing mark. So if we do get precipitation overnight it could still be mixed precipitation or in the form of snow."

The spring equinox will arrive at exactly 5:24 p.m. on Monday.

On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world.
