Puck drops at inaugural Battle Under the Bridge

The first "U7 Battle Under the Bridge Jamboree" to take place at the Point Edward Arena will be held on Sunday.

The event is being held in partnership between the Point Edward Minor Athletic Association and Lambton College's Sports and Recreation Management program.

Lynz Jackson of the local minor athletic association said 220 hockey players from across Lambton-Kent will convene at the arena for a jamboree being held from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

"We've never hosted a jamboree before. We're very excited to have all the teams coming and we're really excited to work with the college," said Jackson.

Third-year students enrolled in the Sports and Rec program organized Sunday's event.

Matthew Brown said tasks were split amongst him and his classmates, which included attracting 20 teams to the event, bringing in sponsors, and working within a budget.

"I'm very, very proud of our program and our classmates that are running this. We've done, I think, a phenomenal job within the timeframe we were given. So I'm just really proud of them, obviously want to shout out to our professor as well."

Brown said the jamboree will be similar to what's seen during a Silver Stick Tournament. There will be activities, prizes, and members of the Sarnia Sting will likely make an appearance.

As inspired by Next Shift Canada, Brown said they have organized an equipment donation on Sunday as well after Waste Depot agreed to donate a bin.

"We're going to put equipment in that and hopefully give back to the community," he said.

"Aside from that, we just want to have fun for the kids."

Event updates will be posted to social media via @LambtonSRM on Instagram and @Lambtoncollegesrm on TikTok.
