BWH included in ranking of world's top hospitals

Bluewater Health has been slowly climbing the ranks of Canada's top hospitals for the past five years.

A recent list, developed by Statista Inc., and published in Newsweek, ranked the local hospital as the 32nd best in the country.

Chief of Communications and Public Affairs Keith Marnoch said it's the fifth straight year they've been included in the prestigious list.

"Hospitals are measured by an international panel of medical experts, doctors and administrators," said Marnoch. "They consider patient satisfaction scores, patient-reported outcome measures, key performance indicators, and overall reputation which is judged by peer institutions."

Marnoch said to be ranked among top hospitals from large centres like Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver, is a testament to the quality of care provided at Bluewater Health.

"It's important to us because we want people to trust the hospital, we want people to feel confident to come and access care at the hospital," he said. "This is just another way, another checkmark for people to believe and put trust in us."

Marnoch said the ranking will assist with recruitment efforts.

"There's a high demand at hospitals for staff, both physicians and other specialists. Being ranked on this list certainly is another badge of honour that we can use, not only to put trust in our patients, but also trying to attract the best and brightest possible staff."

Bluewater Health ranked 50th in Canada in 2019, 38th in 2020 and 2021, and 32nd in 2022.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2023 list ranked over 2,300 hospitals in 28 countries.
