Input sought as city develops affordable housing plan

Residents are being asked for feedback as city staff continue to develop an Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan (CIP).

Manager of Planning and Development Services Eric Hyatt said the CIP is still in the early stages, which involves research of best practices from other CIPs implemented across the province.

As part of the planning phase, the city has launched an online survey, which will be available until 12 p.m. on March 30.

"The survey's just looking to gather the information that kind of speaks to the composition of what makes up a housing unit, what type of unit you live in, why you live in that unit, was there any rationale for selecting the location that you live in," said Hyatt.

Information gathered will assist in the CIP development, which Hyatt described as a tool to incentivize affordable and attainable housing developments.

"We're looking at trying to establish a range of housing within the community and it'll give us some information from the community itself about what type of housing, either they're seeking or they are currently residing in to help us look at where to best tailor those tools ultimately," said Hyatt.

The CIP is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2023. At which point, a report will go to city council.
