St. Luke's hosts first PIE events

St. Luke's United Church in Sarnia is holding a couple of events to educate and promote inclusivity in recognition of PIE Day, which stands for Public, Intentional, Explicit Inclusion of LGBTQ2SIA+ people.

Affirm United (Affirmer S’emble) is a partner of the United Church of Canada and celebrates PIE Day on March 14.

St. Luke's first PIE service will be held on Sunday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m.

Office Administrator Pauline Henderson-Ferguson said Sunday's worship will include songs and reflection by Tom Saul, who will also share the meanings behind the colours of the pride flag.

A PIE dinner will also be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m.

"Especially in light of recent protests, we really need to show our community that we support and welcome everyone," said Henderson-Ferguson.

"We believe Jesus loves everyone."

The dinner will include shepherd’s pie (both meat and vegan), vegan coleslaw, rolls, pies (including gluten and vegan options), ice cream, coffee, tea, and juice.

Attendees will be asked to only pay what they can.

Local Drag Queen Sheerah Rae Heartt will also perform two songs and hold a Q&A after dinner.

Henderson-Ferguson said it's an all-ages event.
