UPDATE: The Revue to grace the Great Lakes' stage again

A long-standing high school tradition in Sarnia will return to centre stage at Great Lakes Secondary School this week.

The Revue became a tradition at the former Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School (SCITS) and was held for the first time at Great Lakes last year after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

"People who have grown up in the city throughout the past several generations have either been a part of it, or gone to watch one," said Teacher and Revue Director April Brander. "Certainly, everybody is in some way connected to someone who's been involved in The Revue."

The show involves different types of performances and sketches by current students.

This year's theme is "Revue 2023: Coming Out Of Our Shell."

"It just really speaks to kids breaking out and getting up on stage, performing and getting to be something different, and come out of the shell that we've been kind of hiding in the last few years," Brander said.

Opening night is on Thursday but shows will also be held Friday and Saturday nights. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Brander said students can get tickets at school during the week while members of the public can purchase tickets for $10 each at the school's office between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Tickets can also be purchased at The Book Keeper during regular business hours.

"We are always hoping to sell out. Last year we came pretty close, Friday and Saturday nights there were only single seats here and there. So we definitely encourage people to get their tickets in advance so that we don't have to turn them away at the door."

The school's fairly new auditorium seats about 577 people.

*Update: Due to inclement weather on March 3, the Friday evening show was postponed and instead, a Saturday matinee will be held on March 4. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the show will start at 2 p.m.

All Friday tickets will be honoured at the Saturday matinee. Those with a Friday ticket who are unable to attend the matinee, will be provided with a full refund as tickets cannot be directly changed for Saturday evening seats.

The public school board said limited quantities of tickets are still available for Saturday evening from the Book Keeper in Sarnia. The GLSS box office will also be open from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday for refunds as needed, and to sell tickets for the Saturday matinee and Saturday evening shows.
