Lambton College to offer Esports scholarships

Lambton College is offering Esports scholarships after receiving $50,000 in funding from the Ontario government.

The Ministry of Colleges and Universities Student Financial Assistance Branch launched the scholarship this year in order to help "high-achieving students" in programs related to the video-gaming industry.

Lambton College will receive $50,000 over two years to offer scholarships to domestic students with financial needs, who are enrolled in the Esports Entrepreneurship & Administration program.

Students will also need a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their fall semester.

“It’s great to see the provincial government recognize the growing demand for professionals in the gaming industry and put funding in place to help our students pursue careers related to Esports,” said Program Coordinator Matthew Hutchinson in a statement. “As the Esports industry continues to expand, it brings with it an increased demand for entrepreneurial-minded young people who aren’t just passionate about playing games, but who are also skilled in the strategy, marketing, and business development aspects of this burgeoning sector.”

Applications are currently being accepted. Students will be required to complete an essay as part of the application process.

Awards will range from $2,500 to $5,000 for qualifying students. Scholarships will be awarded by March 31.
