SLEP partners with Lambton College for networking event

Update: The networking event, scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 23, has been postponed due to the inclement weather expected. The event is now expected to take place sometime in mid-spring.

A networking event in Sarnia aims to match local employers with skilled job seekers.

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) has partnered with Lambton College to host a networking event at the Dante Club on *February 23. Local employers will be able to connect with skilled workers during the "Recruit Without Borders" event.

Economic Development Officer Cari Meloche said prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, SLEP partnered with the college to hold similar events. She said it gives an opportunity for local employers to connect with internationally trained workers.

"[Employers] are looking for more candidates, they're looking for highly-skilled individuals," Meloche said. "The individuals that we have connected with and partnered with are bringing global experience to Sarnia-Lambton, and this just allows an employer to tap into a talent pool that they may have not otherwise had an opportunity to connect with."

Meloche said they are encouraging recent graduates and students who are close to graduating to attend the event.

"In many cases, international graduates have spent time working in the field from where they've immigrated from and so we do find that many international graduates are ready to start working immediately from the time that they graduate," she said. "So we're really excited to offer this opportunity for them to meet with our local employers and I think it will be a really action-packed event."

As a promotion for graduates and students who attend the event, Meloche said free professional headshots will be taken for them to use on LinkedIn or other networking avenues.
