Hospice names incoming executive director

As of the end of March, Kelly Chartrand will take over as the new executive director of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

The board of directors said Chartrand, who's the current director of resident services, will assume the role when current Executive Director Larry Lafranier retires.

"Kelly brings exceptional leadership and management skills to her new position, allowing her to successfully implement our Strategic Plan and lead the organization through the transition," said Board Chair Paul Lane in a media release.

"We thank Larry for his leadership and significant contributions to the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph’s Hospice.”

Chartrand, who was raised in Sarnia, graduated as a registered nurse in 1999. She started her career in Toronto in the emergency/ trauma nursing and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

She continued her nursing career after moving back to Sarnia in 2006. Chartrand later joined St. Joseph’s Hospice in 2020.

“I am looking forward to working with the St. Joseph’s Hospice Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers - as well as other organizations and partners - to ensure the best end-of-life and bereavement services are in place for the community," said Chartrand in a statement. "Larry’s leadership has brought the Hospice to where it is now, and I thank him and the board of directors for trusting me to continue the journey."

Lafranier has served as the hospice's executive director since 2014.
