Third Thursdays to highlight music in Sarnia

A former city councillor is hoping to launch a monthly initiative to boost the local music and art scene while supporting local businesses.

Nathan Colquhoun said he's trying to match local artists with venues across the city to host an evening of music on the third Thursday of every month, dubbed "Sarnia Night."

Colquhoun said Sarnia Night will differ from First Friday, which is more focused on arts and culture in the city's downtown core.

"Since the pandemic, there's all sorts of music bubbling from all the different parts of Sarnia. I just wanted to add a night that was not just centered around downtown but centered across the entire city," he said.

The first Sarnia Night will be held on February 16.

Colquhoun said he has already been in contact with several businesses eager to host.

"Right now, Imperial City Brew House, Tin Fiddler, Night Life, Ups and Downs, Point Brewing Company, Refined Fool Brewing Company, Maud's Variety, The Crown Café, all of these are venues that are going to be hosting on the very first Sarnia Night."

Businesses or musicians interested in getting involved can sign up on Sarnia Night's website.

Colquhoun said eventually, he would like to expand the initiative to include other artists but at this time, Sarnia Night is focused on music. He also hopes third Thursdays catch on and become a monthly outing for residents for years to come.
