City Hall to lower flag in memory of Lt.-Gov. David Onley

The Canadian flag outside of Sarnia's City Hall will be flown at half-mast on Monday to honour the life of David Onley, who served as Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario from 2007-2014.

Onley passed away on January 14 at the age of 72.

Janis Moore from the mayor's office issued a statement on Saturday highlighting the late lieutenant-governor's ties to the city.

"Mr. Onley honoured the citizens of Sarnia by visiting the city and participating in Sarnia’s 100th birthday celebrations on May 7, 2014," she wrote.

Onley made history as the first person with a visible disability to serve as the province's lieutenant-governor. He worked hard during his tenure to break down barriers for other folks with disabilities.
