The Sarnia Sting started the weekend off with a 4-3 comeback win over the Erie Otters Friday night.

Christian Kyrou scored the winning goal on a blast from the point late in the third period. His 12th goal ranks him sixth among defencemen in the Ontario Hockey League.

Third-period goals by Kyrou and Nolan Dillingham helped the Sting pull out the win over the Otters, who are last place in the OHL’s Western Conference.

“The first two periods we didn’t play the way we wanted to play,” said Dillingham. “We came out a little bit slow but we had a good conversation in the room at the second intermission. I think the boys rallied well and had a good third.”

Nolan Burke and defenceman Ethan Ritchie also scored as the Sting snapped their two-game losing streak.

The Otters took a 3-2 lead  in the second period.

Dillingham replied with a short-handed goal 1:59 into the third period.

“I had a bunch of open ice, took it, and threw it on net,” said Dillingham.

Ethan Del Mastro, who was recently acquired by the Sting, made his home debut Friday night.

“When you get traded, you come into a new locker room, new environment you’re not really used to,” said Del Mastro. “I think having a good older group and knowing a couple of guys on the team allowed me to mesh with the team pretty quick.”

The Sting host the Kitchener Rangers at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Coverage on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM) begins at 6:30 p.m.
