Bank robbery suspect fires lawyer, trial delayed

The trial of a suspect in a July 2019 bank robbery in Sarnia has been delayed, again.

Mushin Aden appeared in Sarnia court Wednesday and indicated that he has fired his lawyer.

The trial was scheduled to begin on Monday, January 23. The matter has now gone over to assignment court on Friday, February 3, for new counsel and to set a new trial date.

Jordan Silver with the Worsoff Law Firm in North York confirmed to Sarnia News Today that after about one year, the firm is no longer representing Aden.

This is the third time the Toronto man has let go of his counsel.

Aden, who was 23 at the time of his arrest in connection with the robbery of the TD Canada Trust on London Road, is to stand trial on charges including robbery using an imitation firearm, disguise with intent, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

In the spring of 2020, co-accused Hassan Ali, also from the Toronto area, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

The July 28, 2019 robbery resulted in the suspects being chased by police to London, where a mother and her then nine-year-old daughter were seriously injured when a cruiser crashed into the taxi cab they were riding in.
