$50K reward offered for capture of murder suspect

A $50,000 reward has been issued for information leading to the arrest of a man sought in connection to a homicide investigation linked to Watford.

York Regional Police, in cooperation with Toronto Crime Stoppers, are offering the reward until July 12, 2023 for Phuong Tan Nguyen.

Superintendent Rhonda Corsi said the 37-year-old Toronto man, who's also known as Mike, is wanted for two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Quoc Tran, 37, and Kristy Nguyen, 25, both from Markham.

"The investigation led officers to a very lengthy search in September and October of 2021 at the Twin Creeks Landfill and Environmental Center in Watford, Ontario, where Quoc Tran's remains were located," Corsi said. "The search for Kristy Nguyen continued and led investigators to an additional landfill site in the United States. Sadly, those efforts were unsuccessful and Kristy Nguyen has still not been found."

Corsi said Kristy Nguyen and Phuong Tan Nguyen are not related.

Phuong Tan Nguyen was included in an updated list of Canada's most wanted fugitives in October.

"A Canada Wide Warrant remains in effect for the suspect, Phuong Tan Nguyen, who is considered armed and dangerous," Corsi said. "Investigators learned Phuong Tan Nguyen boarded a plane for Mexico on September 22, 2021. That was his last known location."
