Origin 1 plant anticipated to be complete in January

Production at a new plant in Sarnia is expected to start in the new year as Origin Materials completes its first commercial-scale facility.

An update posted to the company's website on December 29, 2022, said the plant is set for mechanical completion in January.

Plant commissioning is also expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter with start-up beginning "shortly thereafter."

The company, based out of California, produces sustainable materials and first announced plans to build a facility in Sarnia in 2017.

In the spring of 2022, a job fair was held in Point Edward with the expectation that the facility would be completed by the end of the year.

However, the previous timeline encountered slight delays "due to severe weather conditions."

"Barring any further unforeseen circumstances, Origin expects the plant to be mechanically complete in January 2023," read a media release from Origin. "All equipment necessary for completion is onsite and will be installed once current weather conditions subside."

Sarnia News Today reached out to Origin Materials with an interview request but a response was not received prior to publication.
