No one seriously hurt in Hwy. 402 50-plus vehicle pile up

OPP have closed Highway 402 in both directions from Sarnia to London due to "extreme weather conditions."

Lambton OPP said secondary roads are also being affected.

Provincial police are reporting a collision on Highway 402 near Kerwood Road that involves more than 50 vehicles.

A series of collisions also forced the OPP to close Highway 401 between London and Tilbury Friday morning. 

Middlesex OPP Constable Jeff Hare said Friday afternoon the conditions on the 401/402 corridor is one of the worst traffic scenes he's ever seen.

Fortunately, none of the many multi-vehicle collisions that took place during the storm have resulted in serious injury. Two people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Most of southern Ontario remains under a winter storm warning. However, a blizzard warning was issued for Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex, and western Elgin County around mid-day Friday.

Residents have been cautioned to avoid all unnecessary travel.
