UPDATE: LKDSB, SCCDSB schools and board facilities to close Friday

Area students get to kick off the holidays one day early this year.

All Lambton Kent District School Board [LKDSB] and St. Clair Catholic District School Board [SCCDSB] schools and board facilities will be closed Friday.

LKDSB Public Relations Officer Heather Hughes said for this specific school closure, there will be no learning activities for elementary or secondary school students on December 23, including remote learning.

"Based on the most recent information from Environment Canada regarding ongoing weather conditions and anticipated road conditions throughout the day, the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is closing all schools and LKDSB facilities, including the Chatham and Sarnia Education Centres on Friday, December 23, 2022 to ensure the safety of all students and staff," said Hughes in a news release.

A statement from SCCDSB Director of Education Scott Johnson echoed the statement from the public board.

"St. Clair Catholic is taking the unusual step of closing schools in advance of the storm, for the safety of students and staff, due to potentially treacherous travel, as a result of the storm," said Johnson. "As tomorrow is the last day of school before the Christmas break, voluntary online learning will be suspended for the day. Child care centres in schools will also be closed."

Chatham Christian School is also closing for the day on Friday.

Lambton College is suspending all of its operations Friday, closing all campuses including the Fire School, the Skilled Trades Training Centre, and the Ontario Early Years Centre.

The Community Employment Services office in Petrolia will also be closed.

Regular College services will reopen on Monday, January 2, 2023.
