Ontario government highlights local 2023 infrastructure funding

The Ontario government is highlighting funding for infrastructure projects in 2023, including $13.3 million to municipalities in Sarnia-Lambton.

The City of Sarnia is getting the majority of the money, with $6.3 million.

The County of Lambton and St. Clair Township have each been awarded $2.3 million.

Funding is also being allocated to Petrolia, Point Edward, Plympton-Wyoming, Enniskillen Township, and Oil Springs.

The investment is part of a $400 million commitment provincewide in 2023, under the Ontario Community Investment Fund.

Money was allocated toward Sarnia's $30 million sewer upgrade project. It features replacement of Green Street Pump Station and Forcemain, new Bedford Pumping Station, improvements to Sarnia Water Pollution Control Centre and decommissioning of older pump stations.

Other projects in Sarnia include the renovation of Jackson Pool, the reconstruction of Plank Road, and creating more accessible pathways into Tecumseh Park and repairing the concrete around the pool.

There are also plans to renovate the YMCA, and to install an electric vehicle charging station at Tim Horton's on Colborne Road.

Elsewhere across the county, improvements will be made at the Camlachie Community Centre, and Plympton-Wyoming Museum.

At the Moore Sports Complex in St. Clair Township, a new compressor room is being built, they're also installing floor heating and a new wall, and replacing system piping throughout the rink floor.

Errol Village Public School is being expanded to include 46 additional pupil spaces and 49 childcare spaces. A plan is being designed for upgrades to the water treatment plant and distribution system at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.

In Lambton Shores, they're working on the reconstruction of Main Street South (Highway 21) in Forest from the south connecting link limit to King Street East.

Construction of a new elementary school is planned in Forest. It will accommodate 1,024 students as a result of a consolidation, including the construction of 24 child care spaces and two EarlyON rooms.
