United Way campaign surpasses $1M mark

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is heading into the final stretch.

There are just three weeks left in the annual fundraiser, and so far, $1.12 million, or 68 per cent of the $1.65 million needs target has been raised.

Executive Director Dave Brown said there is some concern they might fall short of this year's target, but they're trying to stay optimistic.

"There's a lot of large industrial campaigns still going, CF Industries, Cabot, TransAlta, and Shell Canada," said Brown. "There's also a number of non-industrial campaigns such as Bluewater Health, Lambton College, and some other government campaigns. So there's a lot of activity going on in the next few weeks."

Brown said the last few weeks and days of the campaign tend to be the busiest.

"What's interesting is last year, 41 per cent of our whole year's online contributions came in during the last 25 days of the year, and a large number of that was during the last 48 hours of the year."

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services in three target areas, From Poverty to Possibility, All That Kids Can Be and Healthy People-Strong Communities.
