'Truthsgiving' event planned at Aamjiwnaang

Sarnia's YMCA Project North is presenting "Truthsgiving" 2022 on Friday.

The YMCA said "Truthsgiving" is a recognition of Indigenous resistance, the unlearning of false beliefs around the history of Thanksgiving, and the dismantling of colonial-imperialist systems that continue to oppress and dispossess Indigenous communities.

The expression was coined by Indigenous activist Sikowis [also known as Christine Nobiss].

The free event, at Aamjiwnaang's Maawn Doosh Gumig Community and Youth Centre on Virgil Avenue, is planned from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Local and national presenters and truth speakers will be in attendance.

There will also be food, giveaways, and a performance from Canadian Country Music Association recognized artists "Brothers Wilde."

All are welcome.
