Another in-demand year anticipated for Adopt-A-Family program

Hundreds of families have already signed up for the Inn of the Good Shepherd's Adopt-A-Family program to ensure their children have an enjoyable Christmas.

The annual initiative connects sponsors with local families in need, so children and youth are able to receive gifts that are on their wish lists.

"We want to make sure that child has a smile and gets that Star Wars lego [set] under the tree because that's really what they wanted," said Executive Director Myles Vanni.

As of November 23, Vanni said about 300 families have been matched with sponsors, and many more registrations are anticipated.

Last year, 500 families registered for the program. Vanni said registration "jumped" because of impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Those interested in becoming a sponsor can fill out an online form.

"We do have some sponsors who say 'hey, we want to sponsor a family but we don't have the time or ability to go shopping,'" said Vanni. "So we've got some shoppers here that will take that donation and purchase for the family."

Families who wish to benefit from the program are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Pickup will take place between December 19 and December 22 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
