Bluewater Health has received Transport Canada certification to use the new helipad at Sarnia's hospital during the day.
The day-use certification comes into effect immediately.
The hospital said use of the helipad at night will be granted as full certification is completed.
Transport Canada officials got a first-hand look at the new helipad in October.
Construction of the helipad was completed in September, years after the project was first explored in 2017.
"In a time where hospitals across the province are experiencing historical pressures, this new community resource will prove invaluable," read a Bluewater Health media release.
Until now, Bluewater Health had relied on ground ambulances or patient transfers from Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport.
