Refined Fool teams up with Sarnia FC for charitable kickoff

For the first time in 36 years, Canadians can cheer for their home team at the World Cup.

The men's national team will take to the pitch in Qatar against Belgium on Wednesday.

Refined Fool Brewing Co. Director Brandon Huybers said they've teamed up with Sarnia FC and the Inn of the Good Shepherd to support Canada's team.

"Sarnia FC was a natural choice, they're the ones that know about all things soccer in the city, so they've been really good to work with," said Huybers. "They actually provided the jerseys to give away. For them I think it's a good thing, they're trying to grow the game locally so, having Canada in the World Cup, what better way than that."

Huybers said for a $2 donation, or two non-perishable food items for the Inn of the Good Shepherd, patrons will be given a ballot to win one of three Team Canada jerseys.

"They are just such a great organization in our town and we team up with them quite often," said Huybers. "Obviously this World Cup had a little bit of controversy around it, so we figure, try and offset that a little bit by providing some good locally."

Canada's first game is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Refined Fool Sports Bar on London Road will open at 1:30 p.m.

The draws for the jerseys will take place during halftime of each one of Canada's games.

On Sunday the national team takes on Croatia at 11 a.m., and on Thursday, December 1, Canada faces off against Morocco at 10 a.m.
