Cops for Cans collects record amount of food

The 10th annual Cops for Cans donation event has raised a new record amount for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Members of the Sarnia Police Services and volunteers stood outside of local stores this past weekend to collect non-perishable food donations.

Residents dropped off 23,497 pounds of food, smashing last year's total of 15,098 pounds.

Sgt. Jim McCabe said it was a great weekend that exceeded expectations.

"The community continues to be generous with its donations to the Inn of the Good Shepherd and I know these donations will really help out a lot of people at this time of year," said McCabe.

Cst. John Sottosanti on behalf of the Sarnia Police Service thanked the Real Canadian Superstore, WalMart and No Frills Corunna for their help.

"Finally, we would like to thank our community for such a great response in helping those who need it the most."
