Cops for Cans tradition returns

Sarnia police officers will be out in the community this weekend to collect canned food items for those in need.

The 10th annual Cops for Cans donation event will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Donations will go directly toward the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

"This year has been a very tough year -- as it has for everybody, but especially for the Inn of the Good Shepherd in their collection and we're asking that people come out and donate whatever they can," said Cst. John Sottosanti. "It's been a very successful event every year and we hope we can carry on that tradition."

Over 15,000 pounds of food was donated during last year's Cops for Cans event.

Officers will be stationed at Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills in Sarnia and Corunna, and Walmart.

Police cruisers will have their lights activated while on location and the goal is to fill the vehicles with non-perishable food or essential household items. Prepackaged bags of non-perishables will be available to purchase in stores as well. With files from Stephanie Chaves
