Letang named assistant coach for 2023 World Juniors

Sarnia Sting Head Coach Alan Letang has been named to Team Canada's coaching staff for the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Letang will serve as an assistant coach as Canada looks to defend its 2022 gold medal win. Letang was an assistant coach with Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup this past summer.

He also won a gold medal as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Dennis Williams (Everett, WHL) returns to take the reins as head coach.

Other assistant coaches include Stéphane Julien (Sherbrooke, QMJHL), Brent Kisio (Lethbridge, WHL), as well as goaltending consultant Kelly Guard (Prince Albert, WHL) and video coach James Emery (Calgary, Alta.).

The tournament will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Canada’s National Junior Team will gather in Moncton for a four-day selection camp from December 9 to 12. The selection camp roster will be announced in the coming weeks.

Preliminary round play is scheduled to start on December 26.
