Santa Claus parade returns to downtown Sarnia

The Sarnia Kinsmen are hoping to see many local faces this December as the traditional Santa Claus parade returns.

The 41st annual parade will be held on Saturday, December 3. This year's parade theme is "Christmas All Together."

During the past two years, the Sarnia Kinsmen Santa Claus parade was held drive-thru style at Lambton College.

"This year, we're hoping to get everyone back together again for Christmas," said Vicky Praill, special events and sports marketing coordinator for Tourism Sarnia-Lambton. "We look forward to seeing everyone again, lining the streets, [and] watching the Santa Clause Parade."

Floats will begin to gather on Christina Street North by Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and floats will travel down Christina Street from Lite Street to Wellington Street. The parade will come to an end at Stuart Street, near the former Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School.

Praill said they hope to have over 40 floats signed up for the parade by early November. Application details can be found on the Kinsmen's website.

Donations made will go to local food banks, shelters, and not-for-profit organizations.

"The Kinsmen, during the drive-thru parade, raised over $20,000 for the community so they're hoping to do that again -- if not more this year," said Praill.

Petrolia's Santa Claus parade will also be held on December 3, starting at 2 p.m. The theme is "Christmas Under The Sea."

For those interested in attending other parades across the county, Praill said Corunna and Grand Bend will host their parades on November 26.
