Sting beat by Spits 5-3

The Sarnia Sting couldn't contain the high-scoring Spitfires in a 5-3 loss in Windsor Thursday night.

Sarnia's Nolan Burke scored his OHL leading 12th goal of the season in the loss, and Sandis Vilmanis and Marko Sikic also added goals.

The Spits led 3-0 and were outshooting Sarnia 16-9 after the first period.

Burke got the Sting on the board at 6:07 of the second, his seventh power play goal of the season, the most in the OHL.

Winsor's Jacob Maillet responded at 7:44 to make it 4-1, and Oliver Peer scored his second of the game at 16:35 to give the home team a four goal lead.

Vilmanis scored his fifth goal of the season with under a minute to play in the second period. Sikic scored his fourth of the season with the game out of reach, a power play marker at 18:27, to make the final 5-3.

Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau made 29 saves on 34 shots, while Windsor netminder Mathias Onuska turned away 25 shots.

The Sting are back in action Sunday when the hockey club hosts Flint at 2 p.m. Coverage on CHOK (1070 A.M/103.9 F.M.) gets going after 1:30 p.m.
