Critically acclaimed, award winning films included in SWIFF line-up

Organizers are excited to show an array of films during the eighth edition of the South Western International Film Festival (SWIFF).

The event will kick off on November 3 at Imperial Theatre.

The opening night film is Moonage Daydream, a critically acclaimed documentary that highlights David Bowie's career.

"It features never before seen footage and performances that are going to really excite fans, lovers of David Bowie himself, but also just of music in general," said SWIFF Executive Director Ravi Srinivasan. "It's quite poignant and also a visually stunning documentary."

An original short film, funded by SWIFF, will also hit the big screen during opening night.

Sarnia on Screen commissioned a film directed by Carly Balestreri called Petrolia earlier this year. It's a story about single motherhood.

"There were a lot of locals who were used in the shoot as actors and crew," Srinivasan said. "We know that a lot of them are coming to opening night to see the film so that's going to play before Moonage Daydream. We're really excited about this whole project plan coming to fruition."

SWIFF will end with Triangle of Sadness on November 6. The "outrageous comedy" by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund features Woody Harrelson and won a prestigious award, the Palme d'Or, at the Cannes Film Festival.

"It's a film that you need to see with a big crowd, that just sort of makes the experience a lot better," said Srinivasan. "I think there's going to be quite a few opinions after the film as well -- which is always great to have."

Tickets and passes for SWIFF can be purchased through Imperial Theatre's Box Office or online at the theatre's website or swiff.ca.
