Hospital announces new visitor policy as COVID outbreak ends

A COVID-19 outbreak on the Inpatient Medicine Unit at Bluewater Health in Sarnia has been declared over.

The outbreak was declared in consultation with Lambton Public Health on September 15 when fewer than five patients tested positive.

Chief of Communications and Public Affairs Keith Marnoch said diligent infection prevention and control measures were key in helping control the outbreak.

"Bluewater Health is grateful for the support of all staff and professional staff, patients and families, and the community during this time," said Marnoch in a statement.

The hospital is currently caring for ten COVID-19 positive patients.

Anyone coming into the hospital is being reminded of the importance of complying with Bluewater Health's policies to prevent the spread of the virus.

All individuals are asked to sanitize their hands and wear a mask at all times.

Starting Wednesday, October 12, visitors will also be limited to two at a bedside, at a time, and they'll be asked not to drink or eat within patient rooms.
