Sarnia names permanent city solicitor

Olivia Nisbet, who was serving as the City of Sarnia's acting solicitor, has officially stepped into the role permanently.

Nisbet took over the city's legal department after Michelle Alton left in August to work as an assistant Crown attorney.

“I’m very much looking forward to continuing my work with the city, working with and supporting the diverse array of departments that deliver critical services to our residents and advance our community,” said Nisbet in a statement.

She is a member of the Lambton Law Association’s board of directors and volunteers with Pro Bono Ontario. Nisbet is also a member of the city’s United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) committee.

“I have no doubt [Nisbet] will excel in the role, providing a steady hand at the helm of the legal department and continuing a track record of prudent legal leadership for the city,” said General Manager of Corporate Services David Stockdale.

Nisbet joined the City of Sarnia in 2020 as an assistant solicitor and prior to that, worked at private practices in the Greater Toronto Area and Sarnia area.
