Public input sought to help shape the future of local policing

The next phase of community consultation, as the Sarnia Police Service develops a plan for the future, is now underway.

Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis said they have launched an online survey.

"There's a link that's gone out through MyCNN, it's available on Sarnia police social media and we also have for anyone that may have access issues with the online services, we also can provide hard copies at the front desk at the station," said Davis.

He said the survey follows the six town hall style meetings that were held in September.

All the information gathered will help the service develop a new three-year business plan, which is mandated by the province.

"I would say it would probably take about 15 minutes of time," said Davis. "But it is extremely valuable. The more people that provide us with feedback, the more accurate the information is. The larger the sample size obviously statistically much more relevant, and this is a really important piece of the information gathering that will help guide us in the development of the strategic plan for the next three years."

The survey will be open until Friday, October 14.

"A lot of it is perceptions," said Davis. "How safe do you feel? What are some of the perceptions? What have your interactions with police been? Ultimately, we want to know how we can provide better services, what services that we provide currently that we should keep doing, and should we change our business model? Everything evolves. The community evolves, we're coming out of COVID and there's been a lot of changes in town and the police service, just like everything else, needs to keep pace with those things."

A link to the questionnaire is posted on the police service's website.
