East Lambton Community Complex to open in mid-October

Construction of the East Lambton Community Complex [ELCC] in Watford is close to the finish line.

Warwick Township council received an update on the project during its meeting earlier this week.

CAO/Clerk Amanda Gubbels said they're on track for a mid-October opening.

"The municipality anticipates receiving occupancy on October 7 and transferring rentals to the location from Centennial Hall as of October 11," Gubbels said.

She told councillors preparations are also underway for a public open house on Wednesday, October 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"We welcome people to come and see the facility and its amenities. I will note, not everything will be complete. So, it will be able to be used, but you might see some contractors still touching up some paint."

Gubbels also shared that the project is under budget.

"The overall tender, plus contingency overage of $100,000 for the arena renovations and ELCC, came in at just under $10 million. Even with the overage of the north edition to the workshop at just over $700,000, the whole project is targeted and on budget at almost $10.7 million of the $11.5 [million] allocated by council."

She said that's "really exciting."

"And that's before the donations. The donation committee has been really hard at work and they have some exciting announcements coming up, but the last public announcement on the amount, I think, was $1.6 [million raised]. So, that's super exciting as well."

Gubbels said the township has applied for a large amount of grant funding and is hopeful that any grant funding received would additionally offset the overall capital expenditure.
