Light Up The Night For Noelle

An evening event held in memory of a cherished local teacher is scheduled to return this weekend after a two year hiatus.

Light Up The Night For Noelle will be held at Canatara Park on Saturday, October 1.

Noelle's sister, Nicole Paquette, said it's Sarnia's only night run/walk.

"We have a five kilometre walk, a five kilometre run and a ten kilometre run," said Paquette. "This year we're giving participants the option of being chip timed or not."

Paquette said it's "pretty moving" to watch the runners and walkers take off from the starting line.

"The head lamps are lit up and the course takes you under the bridge past Noelle's [memorial] stone. It's just special and brings the community together once again and just shows what an amazing community we have."

Funds raised will be used to help less fortunate students in Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent schools, and support Noelle's gift closet, which stocks new closets with essential items.

"Every school that wants one, has an option to have a closet and each principal will decide what they're going to fill the closet with, because every school has different needs."

Noelle's Gift was established in memory of Noelle Paquette.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board kindergarten teacher was killed in January of 2013.
