Annual Terry Fox Run at Canatara Sunday

Sarnia's Terry Fox Run, in support of cancer research, returns to Canatara Park this weekend after two years of being held virtually.

The 2022 edition will be in person once again after moving online due to the COVID pandemic.

Organizer Laurie Rome said nearly everyone is impacted by cancer in some form or another.

"I think everybody has their own stories to tell about family or friends who have had cancer," said Rome. "It's just a personal thing for everyone, I think. My father died of cancer and I guess that's a big motivation for me. Everyone has a story like that. Come out and help family and friends who may be having treatment right now. Every dollar we raise goes to cancer research which is the answer. "

Locally, the 2020 event generated about $35,600 while $43,700 was brought in in 2021. In 2019, the community helped raise $51,000.

Rome said it's hard to tell whether COVID impacted fundraising because the 2018 stats were about on par with the last two years, totalling $38,000.

The run/walk is scheduled for Sunday.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the event kicks off at 9 a.m.

Teams can pre-register by visiting www.terryfoxrun.ca.
