High demand for royal and British memorabilia

As residents in southwestern Ontario mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II, there has been a high demand for items from local British shops.

Her Majesty The Queen died on September 8 at the age of 96.

The Owner of A Taste of Britain said items associated with the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II were sold quickly and they had to order more mugs and flags, commonly referred to as Union Jacks.

"Union Jacks are a big seller right now, all sizes of Union Jacks. Our stock is low but we are expecting to top up in the next few days," said Carol Hayhow. "We're hoping to get some memorabilia as our suppliers send out things. We're looking at some mugs but the amount is unknown right now so it's quite limited."

A Taste of Britain is a family-owned business with locations in Sarnia, London, and Chatham.

Hayhow said there hasn't been too much of a demand yet for food or drink related items for those who plan to watch the funeral.

The State Funeral of Her Majesty will take place on Monday, September 19.

Canada will observe a national day of mourning on Monday, as announced by the federal government.
