Impaired driver nabbed at drive-through

A Sarnia man is facing impaired driving charges after going through a restaurant drive-through while over three times the legal limit Sunday night.

At around 10:20 p.m., city police were contacted by restaurant staff about a possible impaired driver.

Police arrived at the scene and administered a roadside screening device, which the suspect failed. The accused was then transported back to police headquarters for a breathalyzer test and was subsequently charged with impaired.

Sarnia police also charged a 60-year-old man with impaired driving Sunday afternoon after the suspect nearly struck a number of vehicles in a parking lot near Christina Street and Maxwell Street.

Police were called to the area at around 2:50 p.m. and located the accused not long after near Indian Road and Confederation Street. Police said prior to conducting a traffic stop the vehicle was observed swerving from its lane.

Police said the driver failed a roadside screening device and later blew over twice the legal limit at police headquarters.

Both accused have had their vehicles impounded for seven days and their drivers licences suspended for 90 days.

Cst. John Sottosanti said impaired driving remains of great concern for the police service and that there has been a 10 per cent increase involving the number of calls related to impaired drivers compared to last year at this time.

Sottosanti said if you do suspect someone of driving impaired, please contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861, extension 0, if it is an immediate emergency please dial 911.
